January 22 @ 5:00 pm 6:00 pm

Fridays are for fascinating forums! Join us for a Live discussion with Dr. Kris F. Sealey, Director of the Black Studies Program at Fairfield University. Her new book, Creolizing the Nation: Nationalism and Caribbean Philosophy, a scholarly work written in engaging narrative format that will capture non-academic readers, identifies the nation-form as a powerful resource for liberation struggles against colonialism and neo-colonialism while acknowledging the homogenizing effects of the politics of nationalism. Drawing on Caribbean, decolonial, and Latina feminist theory, Dr. Sealey offers creolization as a way we might think about the nation in a new way – one that deploys its political and cultural apparatus in order to imagine more just communities. During the discussion Dr. Sealy will explore these themes as related to the colonial history of our own area as related to once-sister-colonies in the Caribbean.
