Tuesday Treasure: Juneteenth
June 15, 2021 @ 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm
Westport has a long history which includes not only the building of a prosperous community but also the subjugation, enslavement and minimization of minorities, the female sex and other populations. During the week of Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating the true end of slavery in the United States in 1865, the museum will highlight objects in the collection related to the Black figures in our town’s past.
Hear about the Munroe’s, the Black family to who lived in Westport on their own property for nearly 100 years; see an original slave deed and images showing the faces of the Black figures we have yet to uncover their full story.
Tuesday Treasures is a Westport Museum programming series showcasing objects from the collection not normally on public view. See and hear the stories behind some of the most unique, mysterious and impactful artifacts in our community.
