Tuesday Treasure: Under the Skirt!

Chemise, stays, stockings, bloomers and petticoats! Glimpse some ankles and learn about the underthings and skivvies of the past. Dispel the myths of corsets, find out how ladies and men manipulated their silhouettes with fashion and get the answer to the fashion mystery of ages: How many layers could really be under those skirts?

Tuesday Treasure: Historical or Hoax

The Museum holds hundreds of textiles in their collections, but how do we know if they’re real or not? Take part in an interactive guessing game to learn more about how to identify whether a textile is a reproduction (and safe to wear!) or a true piece of the past.

Tuesday Treasure: Westport’s Air Wardens

September marks the 75th anniversary of the ending of World War II. Not only did nearly a half million Americans lose their lives, and millions served in the armed forces but civilians supported the war effort at home, working in factories, planting victory gardens and volunteering for civilian patrols that kept a sharp eye for the enemy. Hear the tales of those who watched the skies on the beaches, fields, streets and hills of Westport through the air warden records left behind.
