Our first week of Summer camp will run from July 10th-14th and is geared toward 8–12-year-olds. Campers will travel back to the colonial era, when settlers were new to Connecticut and life was much simpler. Experience how children lived in colonial times by dressing up, playing games, learning dances. Make your very own quill and try it out with some ink. Try your hand at their daily chores like churning butter and candle making! Cost is $275/week for members, $300/week for non-members. For more details and to register, please visit our website at westporthistory.org/events/summer-camp or click the link in our LinkTree. #westporthistory #summercamp #colonial #ushistory #connecticuthistory #historyisfun #camp #kids #fun #learnbydoing

For nearly one hundred years Benjamin Adair and his descendants called Westport home. Likely born into slavery in North Carolina, Adair built a prosperous life through a series of smart investments and his association with financier Morris Ketchum. Married to Ursula Mingo of Long Island’s Shinnecock nation, for decades Adair’s daughters became prominent educators and creatives, yet their story and Westport Legacy was interrupted when the family lost their homestead through unfair real estate taxation. Rediscovered in 2020, their legacy is re-explored in this exhibit built using artifacts and images from descendants.
